Management Information System

A data flow diagram (DFD) is a graphical representation of data flow through a process. It shows how data is input and output from various processes. The document provides an example DFD for a university admission process. The DFD shows that a student first submits an application form which is then inspected by the university authorities. If accepted, the student receives an acceptance letter and is registered. They are then enrolled, provided an orientation schedule, and a student list is created. Finally, the student pays fees by receiving fee details, making a payment to the cashier, which is recorded in the financial database.

Data Flow Diagram

Definition :
A data-flow diagram (DFD) is a graphical representation of the "flow" of data through an
information system. DFDs can also be used for the visualization of data processing (structured
design).
On a DFD, data items flow from an external data source or an internal data store to an internal
data store or an external data sink, via an internal process.
In our assignment we are going to give an example of Data Flow Diagram For further
explanation:

University Admission ( Data Flow Diagram):

Explanation:

The process starts with a student, he/she sends application forms.

Then these application forms are investigated by the University authorities.
If the student comes on merit and the officials perceives the forms correct then those
applications are accepted.
If not then a rejected letter is sent to the student.
The next step after the acceptance of forms is student registration and the accepted
students receives a letter, informing them about their acceptance.
Student Enrollment list is prepared and they are informed about their schedule and
orientation.
The last step is Collection of Fees.
Fee details are provided to the students.
