TRANSLATION:
Motchi (mochi): Sticky rice
Tsukimasho: We are making
Pettanko: The sound of hard pounding
Konete: Kneading the dough
Ton: Sound of tapping (lighter than pettanko)

GAME:
Two children stand facing each other. Both chant the rhyme.
Child A hold both hands out, one hand has palm up and remain still throughout. The other hand
claps the beat vertically throughout the whole rhyme.
Child B follows the actions according to the rhythm patterns shown on the lower stave.
Phrase 1: B claps beat below and above A's hands.
Phrase 2: B claps PEN below A's hands, TAN between A's hands, and KO below A's hands.
Phrase 3: B begins with hands together (left hand facing up and right hand facing down). The
right hand makes a circular movement between A's hands during each KONE - left hand remains still.
Phrase 4: B claps below, between and above A's hands according to music.
NOTE from a Japanese speaker: "ton" is a light sound, like tapping. She suggests playing with the
dynamics on phrase four for fun effect. Be sure to follow accent and tenuto markings on phrase 1 and 2.
