Analog To Digital Converter

An analog to digital converter is needed to convert the analog voltage output of a photodiode into digital form that a microcontroller can understand. Comparators and ADCs can perform this conversion, with comparators using op-amps like the LM-358 IC to compare the photodiode voltage to a reference voltage and output high or low accordingly. Analog to Digital Converter:

It is clear that the output of the Photo diode is an analog voltage. But Microcontroller
does not accept the analog voltage. So we need to convert the analog voltage to digital
before we feed it to the microcontroller.

The LM-358 IC consists of two independent operational amplifiers which were
designed specifically to operate from a single power supply over a wide range of
voltages.
Here Op-amp is used as comparator.
