Interviewessayderya

This interview between Jeremy Paxman and Chloe Smith on BBC News Night uses a hard news interview style. Paxman aims to gain information about a policy change through direct and repetitive questioning, but Smith does not provide straight answers. The formal clothing and separated seating creates a serious atmosphere. While Paxman uses facts to criticize Smith when she does not answer, the interview becomes increasingly combative and interpretive in tone as Paxman grows impatient. By the end, the main purpose has shifted from information gathering to a more critical interpretation, though the audience is still provided context around the policy issues.
