Premire
MITCHELL WALTERS

Subject Area

The academic search premier is within the EBSCOHOST database

It is designed specifically for academic institutions

It is made up of many academic journals with 85% of them peer

reviewed

Many other smaller databases flow into here with many different
subjects

Major Features

The major feature would be the many different ways you can
search for journal articles

Title, subject, keywords, author, ISBN

Another that is very useful is the Boolean feature to narrow down

your searches to what you specifically want

Years of Content

Some journals that can be found date all the way back to the
1890's

Most PDF files date back to 1975

Searching

You search the articles by the three search bars that are at the
top of the page

There are 17 different search fields available:

All text, author, title, subject terms, abstract or author-supplied

abstract, author-supplied keywords, geographic terms, people,
reviews & products, company entity, NAICS code or description,
DUNS number, ticker symbol, journal name, ISSN, ISBN, and
accession number

There are limiters on the side of the search page:

Full text, references available, peer reviewed, year published, sources

types, subject, publication, company, geography, NAICS/industry

Boolean operators

You can use up to two Boolean operators to help you search for
your topic

USING THE "AND" OPERATOR: If you have a search term that is too
general, you can append several terms together using "AND". By
stringing key terms together, you can further define your search and
reduce the number of results.

USING THE "OR" OPERATOR: In order to broaden a search, you can

link terms together by using the "OR" operator. By using "OR" to link
your terms together you can find documents on many topics. Linked
by this operator, your words are searched simultaneously and
independently of each other.

USING THE "NOT" OPERATOR: In order to narrow a search, you can

link words together by using the "NOT" operator. This operator will
help you to filter out specific topics you do not wish included as part
of your search.

Subject categories

There are very many different subject: thesaurus term areas that
you can narrow you search terms down to

The top ones include websites, Internet, World Wide Web, computer
network resources, genetic algorithms, and books

This specific database does offer the option of full text

There is a full text link at the bottom of the article option on the
search page or after accessing the article there is an option on the
left of the page

Both PDFs and html options for full text are possible

Interesting facts

What I find interesting is that it has a cite option for it do to for

you in many different formats

You can sort the page by relevance, oldest, newest, source, and
author

Also on the right of the search page it will give you related
