Welcome Address - ASIST Grad 2015

The welcome address introduces the commencement speaker and other guests. It highlights the theme "ASIST Gearing-up for ASEAN Integration" and discusses the implications of ASEAN integration for graduates, including greater challenges and competition for employment. of Trustees, CHED Commissioner Alex B. Brillantes, Jr.; our very own ASIST President,
the super-active Dr. Aurelio V. Labanen; our Vice President for Academic Affairs, the
intelligent and knowledgeable Dr. Noel B. Begnalen; the Vice President for
Administration and Finance, the ever-supportive Mr. Gregorio T. Turqueza,Jr.; the smart

beloved parents and guardians, husbands and wives; fellow graduates; visitors and guests;
ladies and gentlemen; good afternoon.
The theme ASIST Gearing-up for ASEAN Integration is very timely and appropriate.
This is so because the ASEAN members move towards one community at the end of
2015 that is a plan for economic, political, social and cultural integration just like the
European Union model. Now, what are its implications to us as todays graduates? It
implies more challenges and more rigid competitions for employment. But despite this,
we should still be hopeful and be optimistic. We should be confident that we can stand
out. We should believe in ourselves and say, Yes, I can! That is, just like our
competitors, we also have our own weapons in the battle for employment. We have the
knowledge and skills imbued and imparted to us by our Alma Mater the Abra State
Institute of Sciences and Technology. Just like what Fr. Louigene Valdez had said during
his homily in our Baccalaureate Mass yesterday: ASIST prepared us mentally and
intellectually. We only need to strive harder now and be more competitive. Just like
yesterdays Baccalaureate mass theme, we also need to remember: we will triumph with
the help of God. Lets believe and be proud of ourselves as ASISTIANs. Lets be proud
of ASIST. And let ASIST be proud of us, too.

On the other hand, I know, and I am very sure, that at the very moment, we, fellow
graduates, are not yet thinking of the future challenges of life. At this point, we only want
to cherish this very momentous event. May I ask everyone then, to join us the graduates
to appreciate and feel every second of this Commencement exercises. To all of you who
are here today, in behalf of the graduating class of the academic year 2014 2015, I
welcome you all to this occasion.
