Draw A Polygon in Mapinfo

1. Open a guide layer and make it editable. Select the polygon tool and draw a polygon on the editable layer by tracing the guide layer. 2. Save the polygon to a new layer called "study_area" and make it the editable layer. 3. To reshape the polygon, select it with the arrow tool and use the reshape tool on the drawing pad to add or move nodes as needed. Adjusting the snap tolerance and move duplicate nodes settings in Preferences can affect how the polygon is drawn.

Drawing a Polygon in MapInfo

Heads-up digitizing

1. Open a data layer that you will use as a guide to trace your new polygon: road-t
2.

Make the cosmetic layer editable: Map> layer control> check box under
pencil on the cosmetic layer line (to make editatble)

3. On the Drawing Tool Pad, select & change the region style
pattern & a thick blue line

to No fill

4. Press s on the keyboard to activate snap to nodes


5. Select polygon tool

and draw polygon.

6. Save cosmetic objects (the polygon) to a new layer called study area:
Map> save cosmetic objects> New> save> select the Ward17 project
folder & type study_area for the filename
7. In layer control, make the study_area be the editable layer.
8. To reshape the polygon:
a. Choose arrow select button and select inside the study area polygon
b. Select the reshape button on drawing tools pad
c. Use the add nodes button where you need to add nodes
Understand how the snap tolerance distance affects drawing.
Understand how the move duplicate nodes affects drawing. Both are
controlled under the options> preferences> map window screen
