Extra Week05

This document contains 6 multi-part physics problems involving concepts like angular velocity, angular acceleration, linear velocity, and linear acceleration. The problems relate to topics like a jet plane in flight, a fire truck ladder extending and elevating, a flywheel subjected to torque, rotational motion with constant angular acceleration, and motion at points on a rotating plate and flywheel. Solutions require using kinematic equations and concepts involving rotational and linear motion.

A jet plane flying at a constant speed v at an altitude h = 10 km is being tracked by radar

located at O directly below the line of flight. If the angle is decreasing at the rate of 0.020
rad.s1 when = 60 , determine the value of r at this instant and the magnitude of the
velocity v of the plane.

2. The ladder of a fire truck is designed to be extended at the constant rate l = 150 mm.s1
and to be elevated at the constant rate = 2 deg.s1 . As the position = 50 and l = 4 m
is reached, determine the magnitudes of the velocity v and the acceleration a of the fireman
at A.

3. A flywheel rotating freely at 1800 revolutions per minute clockwise is subjected to a variable counterclockwise torque which is first applied at time t = 0. The torque produces a
counterclockwise angular acceleration = 4t rad.s2 , where t is the time in seconds during
which the torque is applied. Determine
(a) the time required for the flywheel to reduce its clockwise angular speed to 900 revolutions per minute,
(b) the time rquired for the flywheel to reverse its direction of rotation, and
(c) the total number of revolutions, clockwise plus counterclockwise, turned by the flywheel
during the first 14 seconds of torque application.
4. The angular acceleration of a body which is rotating about a fixed axis is given by = 0.5
rad.s2 . Determine the angular displacement and time elapsed when the angular velocity
has been reduced to one third its initial value 0 = 12 rad.s1 .
5. The square plate rotates about the fixed pivot O. At the instant represented, its angular
velocity is = 6 rad.s1 and its angular acceleration is = 4 rad.s2 , in the directions
shown in the figure. Determine the velocity and acceleration vectors of
(a) point A and

(b) point B.

6. The flywheel has a diameter of 600 mm and rotates with increasing speed about its shaft.
When point P on the rim causes = 90 , it has an acceleration a = 1.8er + 4.8e m.s2 .
For this instant, determine the angular velocity and angular acceleration of the flywheel.
