FILEZILLA Client cannot display, download, rename or change the garble files or
filenames on FTP Server
by: Revengsky Joseph D. Reyes (rjdreyes jcyberinux.com)
FAQ: Encounter problems with FTP transfers that garble non-English characters in filenames
such as Chinese and Arabic characters. What is Charset Encoding? What is UTF-8?, is it the
default charset? Why this affects my download and upload? Why the filenames or files cannot
display correctly on FileZilla Client? Chinese Character and other characters cannot display or
download or even rename the files there was an error.
Important things to know about:
UTF-8. UTF-8 (UCS Transformation Format8-bit) is a variable-width encoding that can
represent every character in the Unicode character set. It was designed for backward
compatibility with ASCII and to avoid the complications of endianness and byte order
marks in UTF-16 and UTF-32. - Wikipedia, UTF-8 know more about it!
Character Encoding. A character encoding system consists of a code that pairs
each character from a given repertoire - Wikipedia, Character Encoding know more about it!
Charset Encoding Wiki FileZilla Project, know more about it!
These sorts of questions can be answer, heres the absolute solution:
1. Open your FileZilla Client, then click File then click Site Manager. (or used the shortcut key
CTRL+S)

2. Then from there, choose the remote ftp site, then click Charset Tab.

3. From there, you will see the server charset encoding options for filenames.

*Autodetect *Force UTF-8 and *Use custom charset

Try to used Force UTF-8, choose it and click OK.
4. Close your previous connection and close FileZilla Client. Then launch again FileZilla Client
then see if this resolves the issue.
Thats it. I hope this guidelines helps you out. Cheers!
