During the work placement period that I had in this semester, I worked in
Ahmed Al Nasser Garage in the electrical department. The garage was known
by fixing German cars, especially the electrical parts of these cars. Also, the
shop was not only famous by fixing German cars, it was also known by selling
and buying cars and spare parts for the cars, so I had to deal with other
shops while working there. There were various outdoor tasks in this work
placement such as:
Know the prices of the cars sold in other shop and compare it to ours.
Supply the shop with different equipment from different shops.
Deal with different shops to provide full service for the cars fixed.
There were several future projects in our garage; one of them was brining
workers to provide full service for our cars instead of dealing with different
shops. The main aim of this project is to save time by taking cars outside the
shop and bring them back again. Clearly, when we take our cars outside the
shop they could be damaged or the shop we are dealing has too many
customers to deal with, that is why we prefer our own employers provide this
service so we handle 100% the responsibility of the cars. Therefore, I
discussed with our team that and should provide this service in our garage
depending on the employers we will hire with charge of 2% from the
service(engine oil, breaks oil and filters) cost for a 1 year warranty, 7% for 2
years warranty, and 11% for 3 years warranty. Besides, there are various
specifications in our extended warranties we will provide for our customers.
For example, there will be a spare guarantee for 3 month to the 1 year
warranty, 6 months to the 2 years warranty, and a whole year to the 3 years
warranty. A lot of our regular clients will feel delighted with our project, and
they will deal with us to fully care for their cars. In fact, I learned enormously
from this project, for example; analyzing to obtain the best solution for the
issues. On top of, I applied my mathematics and calculating skills to calculate
the income percentage, and share it with garage manager and assistant
manager. Therefore, the outcomes of this project were as the following:
Problem solving skills.

Analyzing skills.
Using my understanding and knowledge in engineering in different
fields (Mathematical skills).
Commenting on the experience:

There were various points in mind that I want to gain through my duration in
the work placement:
Gain an experience in Bahrain market.

Get use to the work nature.
Gain different experiences in different fields.
Improve my communicating skills.
Apply what I have learned in the university in the work environment.
Handle more than one task, hardworking, and well planned individual.
I have faith in engineers that they can be inventive individuals in various

types of professions. So, I am having an ambitious to obtain an innovative
experience in several and fresh fields. Moreover, I am certain that this extra
experience will support me in my upcoming plans due to that I will be able to
apply my knowledge in different engineering fields, and it will help me to be
distinguishing about our market status, and develop my employability and
interpersonal skills.
This work placement course was a great opening to increase business
knowledge for me, it also skilled me the method of marketing, operating,
repairing, selling and analyzing problems with more technical and modern
methods. Furthermore, I gained knowledge about how to work under a
manager, hard work, how to connect with the other employees while doing
tasks and how to have a great relationship with the clients and staff. Besides,
I learned several techniques to avoid problems with customers in order to
prevent any issues in the work place. For instance, every customer has their
own opinion and thinking, so I had to keep up with them to know their
thinking so I can provide the suitable service for them.
Employability skills:
During my work placement period, I was able to detect my strengths and
weakness sides of my employability, engineering and interpersonal skills,
while I am learning new additional skills. Besides, this experience has
improved and enhanced my employability skills and interpersonal skills.
During my work in the garage I improved my communication skill due to
that most of the customers and staffs were foreign. Moreover, I also improved
my problem solving and analyzing skill by learning from the technicians in the
garage and know they start their work by preparing plans and equipment. In
addition, I sharped my engineering reporting skills due to that I handle the
reporting part during my work period, most of the reports were done were
similar to the technical documents I write about my final projects in Bahrain
Polytechnic.
Alternative skill was improved which is identifying problems in most types
of cars. This enhanced my practical skills problem solving skills and analyzing
skills. Extra skill I improved was my timer management as I had to finish my
task and bring items and spare parts on time.
As well as, I improved my team work side and communication skills
because I had to work with the other staff from my department and the other
department in the garage. As well, I had to deal and contact with different
type of costumers in order to know the service and the problems they are
facing with their cars.
Future plans:
In future, I am focusing to combine the skills were gained through my
working period as assistant technician, salesman and customer service
employee. As well as, I am considering to obtain great experience in our
Bahraini market at the present time to gain more experience about the work
environment in Bahrain in order to know the effect of studying higher
education and working at the same time in future, be selectable in choosing
suitable jobs, have an experience in the actual work atmosphere, and identify
my strengths and weakness sides in order to expand them in a better way.
Finally, I believe that this course will lead for a better career in the future, and
I believe that the place I worked in was the major reason behind the
improvements in my employability skills and engineering skills.
