Systems of Equations - Substitution and Elimination

This document provides an activity to practice solving systems of equations using either substitution or elimination methods. It contains 9 systems of equations and their solutions. Students are instructed to work with a partner, with each solving a system - one by substitution and one by elimination. They then reflect on how to use each method and which types of systems each method is best suited for.

Systems of Equations - Substitution and Elimination - Pairs – 2010

This activity is designed to help you master the difference between the substitution and elimination strategies for
solving a system of equations. Working with a partner, each of you will solve one of the systems. In each pair of
problems one problem must be solved by substitution and one must be solved by elimination. When you finish, both
systems should have the same answer.
