IgotmyfirsteverdoglastyearinSeptemberandtobehonest
ithasbeenaninterestingtimeseeinghergofroma10week
old puppy to now nearly a 7 month old. One of the issues I
have had with her is related to food. When I first got Polly I
followed the feeding instructions I was given to a tee but
noticed that she wasnt really interested in the biscuits I was
giving her, despite being told they were what she was being
givenandenjoyed.
IobservedthatshewouldeatthemeatIputinherbowlbut
notthebiscuits.ThevetsuggestedthatIstopgivinghermeat
and only give her biscuits. After 4 days of her not eating and
losingweightIcavedandnowshehasarawfooddiet.Inotice
that whenever she does eat biscuits (only from stealing them
from another dogs bowl) that she vomits. This happened on
Boxing Day when she ate a handful of biscuits at a friends
houseandthenextdayvomitedtwice(andofcoursethiswas
in the backseat of my car!). The vet now believes she has an
allergy to the preservatives or some other ingredient in the
biscuits.
Ifindthatmakingmyowndogfoodislessexpensiveandmany
of the ingredients that I use are things I would normally buy
fromthesupermarketlikethefruitandvegetables.Whenmak
ingyourownthethings,bareinmindthatthemainingredient
shouldbe3545%meatandthentherestmadeupoffruitand
vegetables.Thevegetablescanbegivenraworsteamed.
I also add spirulina into the dog food I make as it's not just an
amazingfoodforhumansbutalsofordogs.Researchhasshown
that is may help to increase energy levels, strengthen the im
munesystem,improvegastrointestinalhealth,aidindetoxifica
tionandhelpallergies.Inadditionitissaidtohelpwiththecoat,
improvebreathandoverallhealth.
Myownpersonalexperiencehasbeenthatbyfeedingmybeagle
Inowfeedherrawmeatmixedwithvegetablesandboneslike
rawfoodthatImakemyselfshehasgainedweightandhasalot
brisket, chicken carcasses, chicken wings. I have also noticed
moreenergynow.Asafairlyactivepersonmyselfitmeansthat
that she can be a real piggy when it comes to food. This
wehaveabetterrelationshipasshecankeepupwithme.

common health issues in the beagle breed is obesity. When
