Electrical, Protocol and Noise Rejection Test Requirement For The MLT-STD-1553 Remote Terminal May 19, 2015

The document outlines electrical, protocol, and noise rejection tests for a MIL-STD-1553 Remote Terminal (RT). It lists parameters that must be continuously monitored during all tests, including proper sync, terminal address, status bits, word count, bit count, parity, encoding, and response time. It describes performing electrical tests on all buses for units with redundant configurations. One test verifies the RT's amplitude meets requirements by sending a command requesting the maximum words, checking that the voltage remains within specified ranges.

Electrical, Protocol And Noise Rejection Test

Requirement for the MLT-STD-1553 Remote Terminal

May 19, 2015

General Monitoring Requirement

Certain RT parameters must be continuously monitored throughout all tests. The RT shall
have failed the test if at any time during the test any of these parameters fail to meet the requirements of MIL-STD-1553B. These Parameters are :
Proper sync
Proper terminal address in the status word
Reserved status and instrumentation bits in the status word are set to zero
Proper word count
Proper bit count
Odd parity
Proper Manchester encoding
Contiguous data (no time delay between data words)
Response time

Electrical Protocol

Electrical tests shall be performed on all buses for UUTs with redundant bus configurations. All output electrical tests shall use Figure 1, Resistor Pad Configuration, with all measurements taken at point A, unless otherwise noted.
2.1

Amplitude

A valid, legal transmit command shall be sent to the RT, requesting the maximum number
of words that it is capable of sending. The pass criteria shall be Vppmax <= 27.0 V, Vppmin
>= 18.0 V for transformer coupling; and the pass criteria shall be V ppmax <= 9.0 V, Vppmin
>= 6.0 V for direct coupling.
