Lifting Unit
Name:
Joshua Licht
4/9/15
Time:8:20-9:10 AM
Reflection from prior lesson:
Students last lesson began to act out and use inappropriate language when they struggled to accomplish the
lift. I need to make sure that I am being more assertive when I am talking to the kids and giving instruction
to avoid the students thinking they can misbehave. However, I thought the lesson overall went well outside
of a few kids misbehaving.
Standards:
Arizona State Standards
-Demonstrates competency in motor skills and movement patterns needed to perform a variety of physical
activities
-Demonstrates understanding of movement concepts, principles, strategies, and tactics as they apply to the
learning and performance of physical activities.
-Exhibits responsible personal and social behavior that respects self and others in physical activity settings.
Lesson Objectives:
At the end of this lesson the students will be able to demonstrate proper form for squatting.
Materials Needed:
Gym clothes, close toed shoes, weights, and plastic milk crate (box).
A. The Lesson
1. Introduction (8 Minutes)
2.
3.
Students will meet in the gym and line up in roll call order.
Roll will be taken, and the students will be reminded of the rules of the weight room.
The students will be released to change and head to the weight room.
Content Delivery (35 minutes)
Today will be another learning day for the students in the weight room. The students will
review the form for the previous two days and go over how to properly squat.
After I explain how to squat I will show them how to squat with proper form. Squatting is one
of the easier main lifts to achieve so the students should receive plenty of quality time inside
the racks.
The students when squatting will need to go all the way down to the box for the proper form
to be achieved.
Closure (8 Minutes)
Students will be informed that they are going to be retested the next time we have class
and that they need to prepare themselves for the test.
I will go over everything that the students are going to be tested on.
We will talk about the form for all three of the lifts and the scoring rubric for each lift.
B. Assessments Used
Assessment will be done in the form of visual observations, and verbal and visual directions will be given
when a student is doing an activity incorrectly.
C. Differentiated Instruction
The students that are performing any fundamentals incorrectly will be shown the correct form we will make
sure that the kids are learning the desired technique. In order to allow for safety, the students will not be
allowed to lift until I give the instructions of ready lift. This way the students are all going at the same time
and not at random.
