One job that I am curious about is psychology. Psychologists study cognitive, emotional,
and social processes and human behavior by observing, interpreting, and recording how people
relate to one another and their environments. They also conduct scientific studies of behavior and
brain function; collect information through observations, interviews, surveys, and other methods;
research and identify behavioral or emotional patterns; and test for patterns that will help them
better understand and predict behavior. The median annual wage for psychologists was $69,280
in May 2012. Although psychologists typically need a doctoral degree or specialist degree in
psychology, a masters degree is sufficient for some positions. Practicing psychologists also need
a license or certification. The projected job growth is currently at about 12%. Most universities
offer psychology programs. While still in high school, you should aim to take all of the
psychology and anatomy classes that are offered. Any jobs in the medical field can help you
relate to psychology. You shouldnt pursue this career if you arent a people person, considering
it is a people and patient dominated field. This job fit into my aptitude results because it said that
I would enjoy helping people. The main reason that I want to be involved in this area is because I
find it interesting to help people with disorders.
Another job that I am interested in is being a surgeon. Surgeons operate on patients to
treat injuries, such as broken bones; diseases, such as cancerous tumors; and deformities, such as
cleft palates. Surgeons also must take a patients medical history, order tests for nurses and other
staff, update charts and patient information, recommend and design a plan of treatment, and
address concerns of their patients. The median annual wage for a general surgeon is about
$187,200. The education level required is a doctorate and other professional degrees. You can
become a surgeon at any university that offers a doctorate program. While still in high school,
you should take any psychology, anatomy, or science classes that are available in order to help
prepare yourself. Currently, the projected job growth is at about 18%. While going to college,
you should attempt to hold a job in the medical field to give you some type of related work
experience. This is mostly a people occupation, but it will also involve the use of a lot of data.
This career fit into my aptitude results because it said that I would be interested in helping
people. This occupation interests me because Ive always liked human health and thought that
operating on the human body would be interesting.
A third job I am interested in is a psychiatric technician. They care for people who have
mental illness and developmental disabilities. Technicians typically provide therapeutic care.
Aides help patients in their daily lives and help to ensure a clean, safe environment. They also
must evaluate their patients, listen to their concerns, and develop a plan of treatment; lead
patients in their activities; give medications and treatment; monitor vital signs; and admit and
discharge patients. The median annual wage is currently about $27,440. Technicians usually need
a postsecondary education, and then aides and techs also receive on the job training. In high
school, you should aim to take as many science and human body classes that are offered. The job
outlook for 2012 was at 12% with about 153,000 jobs to be created. Any jobs in the medical field
will help you out in the future if you choose to pursue this career. This would be classified
mostly as a people occupation, but will also deal with some data. I am curious about this job
because I have always found mental disorders to be interesting.
A fourth job that I think would be fun is a baker. Bakers mix ingredients according to
recipes to make breads and other recipes. Bakers must also check the quality of their ingredients;
prepare equipment; measure and weigh ingredients; make dough; place dough in molds, pans, or
on sheets; set oven temperatures; place and bake items in hot ovens or grills; observe color and
state of items being produced; and apply glazes, icing, and other toppings. The average annual
income for a baker is $23,140. The education required is less than high school. It may benefit
you to have some experience working in a restaurant or other cooking position prior to becoming
a baker. The current projected job outlook is at 6%. It could be considered a people or things
occupation. This occupation interests me because I have always enjoyed baking and trying new
things out.
