Genotype Phenotype Lab: Overview

Students will participate in a lab to learn about human genotypes and phenotypes by documenting their own traits and genetic makeup. They will determine if traits are dominant, recessive, or codominant by compiling class-wide results and analyzing ratios. Objectives include understanding how genes govern physical traits, learning one's own genotype for several traits, and distinguishing dominant from recessive alleles to determine phenotypes from genotypes. Standards address recognizing trait types, distinguishing dominant and recessive alleles, and illustrating inheritance patterns over generations.
