Synopsis

ACT ONE
Its 1pm on a beautiful Friday afternoon in Hollywood, present day. John Andersmith is
outside thinking out loud. He is introduced as a movie producer working on his idea for a
second movie. His first movie was surprisingly popular, and it is important to start
working on a new movie quickly (Celluloid Heroes.)
With their first popular romantic comedy, The Worst Kind of Love, John and his
director/friend Tom Jacasser begin brainstorming for their next production the next day.
John knows that the new movie should be another romantic comedy but made to appeal
to a larger audience. Trying to attract more young adults, everyone on the team works to
create a story that has a great plot and roles meant for young, attractive actors and
actresses.
Late one night, John has an amazing idea for the movie. It will be a movie about a guy
with many past loves that all come back into his life somehow as an adult. All of the girls
are nice, pretty and still know the main male, but the lead actors character can only pick
one girl to keep.
During casting, John, Tom, and Shayne find a young attractive actor named Samuel
Johnson who has worked as many supporting characters in movies like Space Wars,
The Revengers, and Reptiles on a Jet.. During casting, Shayne finds out Samuel
doesnt dance (I Dont Dance). Despite this, Samuel is perfect for the role, and he is
willing to learn anything to get the leading role. Samuel is cast as the male lead.
After casting Sam, they move on to casting the leading lady of the production. They
narrow the women to two, and choose their old friend from college theatre for the role.
The woman they choose is Scarlett Johansson, she is fairly new to the movie business,
and has recently moved to a cheap apartment in LA. However, she has worked in a few
supporting roles, and she knows she is ready for a leading part. She believes this part will
be her big break, and she is ready to start her career as a star actress (The Girl In 14G.)
A few days later, during the first few days of shooting, an unnamed cameraman falls ill
with pneumonia. He calls in saying that he will not be able to work the movie for a few
months. However, John knows Dave Greenman. Dave is an experienced cameraman who
is 36 years old. John calls Dave and asks him if he can do the camera work. Dave accepts
and is scheduled to start the next day.

Meanwhile, Shayne is working with the ensemble and leads on a pop dance scene in the
movie. It turns out that not many are good dancers, and Shayne is having a horrendous
time (I Hope I Get It intro). People are running into each other, the blocking is difficult
to figure out, and nobody is making any changes. Shayne eventually gets fed up, leaves
the music on, and storms out. Everyone starts dancing and falling over each other. Soon,
everyone is on the ground.
Shayne heads on set to tell Tom of the issues hes having, but Tom is having his own
problem. In a scene where the lead catches one of the girls, played by the stunt double,
jumping out a window from a fire, the girl starts falling in slow motion as the song plays
(Free Fallin.) The girl lands safely at the songs conclusion, and everyone is relieved.
Immediately after this, a light in the ceiling falls and smashes beside the lead and girl.
Tom facepalms.
In his dressing room, Samuel is talking to John about contractual problems. Samuel is
helping work on another small production made by a close friend, but he is having
trouble helping due to his schedule. John agrees to rearrange some of the shooting so
Samuel can work elsewhere for a bit. John mentions that he will inform Scarlett of the
change, but she will be okay with it because she has no other work currently.
Scarlett is working on a scene when John enters to mention the schedule change. Scarlett
is fine with the change, but she mentions that she has not had much time to review the
scenes that will now be shot. Tom and John both say how much they believe in Scarlett
(True Colors.) Her confidence is reaffirmed.
Back in his home, Tom is reviewing some of the scenes from the show. Tom realizes a
plot hole and tries to fix it by rearranging some characters parts. Once the problem is
fixed, he realizes another mistake and doesnt know what to do. After arguing with
himself for a humorously long time, Tom finally finds a fix.
On set the next day, Tom is working with Scarlett on one of the changed scenes. Scarlett
is having a bit of trouble understanding the scene they are working on, and the
cameraman, Dave Greenman, is having trouble getting the right shots. After a few takes,
Dave realizes that he ran out of space on his memory card. After Tom and Dave look for a
new one all over set, they still come up empty. Tom is frustrated, but simply tells
everyone to go work on choreography. The response is less than thrilled.

Later that day, after Dave gets a new memory card, the cast has returned to the tough
scene. After many takes of the same scene, Scarlett becomes frustrated because she is
unable to please the director, despite her many attempts to change the way she is saying
her lines, hoping to eventually catch on. Scarlett takes a five minute break along with
everyone else on set.
Trying to clear her mind, Scarlett heads to her dressing room to relax and review her
lines. While there Josefina Gutierrez enters. She is a supporting character in the movie.
She acts like Scarletts friend. Scarlett admits how much trouble she is having with the
scene to Josefina. Josefina tries to comfort her (Bad Day.) Josefina offers to talk to the
director and the producer to make some switches so that Josefina could do the scene for
Scarlett. Scarlett declines her offer, but Josefina is persistent. She leaves to attempt to
make the changes without Scarletts consent.
Josefina tracks down the movies director, Tom and writer/producer John to talk to them
about her idea. Unwilling to rewrite the script, The men tell Josefina that they still have
faith in Scarlett and refuse to make any changes. Josefina leaves upset, and Tom and John
talk about how strong Scarlett is in her role (Girl On Fire.)
In a rest are following the previous scene, Scarlett joins with John and Tom. John and
Tom make sure what Josefina said isnt true and Scarlett just laughs it off. Suddenly, an
extra runs over to the group and starts loudly complaining. Tom and John are very
confused, and the extra claims he just doesnt have a big enough part. After being told he
auditioned for the part of an extra, the extra is confused. The extra learns that an extra and
a supporting character are very different things. He leaves indignantly. John, Tom, and
Scarlett have a laugh and return to set to finish shooting the tough scene.
ACT TWO
It is two weeks later on a Thursday afternoon. The movie still needs a few more scenes to
be shot, and then it needs to be edited into one clip before it is finished. The deadline is
three months away and approaching fast. Tom is having a fit with a short scene involving
the ensemble. Tom attempts to get everyone to be in awe, but according to some
people, this phrase can take on different meanings. Some people are happy and excited
while others are simply dumbfounded. The scene does not look good and Tom just
becomes really stressed and walks out.

Immediately after this, Tom meets with John in the rest area. Tom is freaking out, and
John is having his own problems as well. Tom complains that no one can ever figure
anything out, and John says that the movie just doesnt fit his image of it. Samuel comes
along and tells them that things change, and people will always learn eventually (Three
Little Birds.)
Tom is working on a scene the next day, and when the scene closes, Tom yells Cut! for
the final time. The movie has finally been shot in its entirety and just needs to be edited.
John runs over to Scarlett and Samuel, who were doing the final scene, and hugs them
both. Everyone is super excited to see the final product, but there are still time concerns.
One week later, Tom and John are meeting in a local coffee shop to discuss some final
notes for editing. John expresses his concern for the lack of relationship development,
and he compares it to the lack of development in Toms and his relationship. Tom
mentions theyre not in a relationship, but John just says about their friendship as a
whole. Tom, changing the subject, mentions all of the great things the two leading
characters do for each other to develop their characters, and John agrees. It is still
extremely awkward.
It is almost three months later. The movie releases the next day. The entire cast goes out
to celebrate finishing the production through so much adversity (We are the
Champions.) John and Tom congratulate everyone, and the Extra is still complaining
about how he just didnt have a big enough part. Nonetheless, everyone gathers for a big
group huddle and John gets everyone to yell Movie! after three counts.
On the day of the release, Samuel, Tom, John, and Scarlett all head out together to see the
premier. They are walking down the red carpet looking extremely fashionable. On the
walkway the four joke about how everyone is so excited for such a terrible movie. John
kind of breaks the fourth wall by saying that the movie should be Rated T for Terrible.
The four laugh about it, but everyone is proud of their work.
After the movie premier, the entire leading and supporting cast members are meeting
outside the theatre. Countless people walk by asking for autographs and congratulating
everyone on a job well done. Josefina talks to Scarlett and admits that Scarlett did an
excellent job (even if she still could have done it better.) Shayne congratulates Samuel on
stumbling through a wonderful dance routine. Tom thanks Dave and the crew for
keeping the problems to almost minimal. Everyone is still very happy with their
performance.

It is one month later. John and Tom are speaking to Scarlett over the phone about how
popular the movie has become. Suddenly, John gets a second call and has to put Scarlett
on hold. An old friend of Johns who is also in the movie business as a tech guy has just
had the best idea for a movie ever. John has heard this all before, and Tom knows
exactly where the story is going. John says he would love to try to produce a movie from
his friends idea, and John mentions that he knows some people who could help out. All
characters come on stage for the finale (Celluloid Heroes reprise.)
