    Biperiden is an anticholinergic drug used to treat parkinsonian syndrome and extrapyramidal symptoms. It works by blocking cholinergic responses in the central nervous system. Common adverse reactions include central nervous system effects, peripheral effects, skin rashes, dyskinesia, ataxia, and impaired speech. It is contraindicated in patients with untreated narrow angle glaucoma, intestinal stenosis or obstruction, mega colon, prostatic hypertrophy, or life-threatening tachycardia. Nurses are responsible for assessing patients for signs of Parkinsonism, extrapyramidal symptoms, mental status changes, tolerance over time, and risks of abrupt discontinuation.
