Welcome Back Parents

and Students!

CLASS RULES:
1) Be prepared for class (wear
proper footwear, clothing and
bring a positive attitude).
2) Listen while the teacher is
talking.
3) Always give your best effort!
4) Respect all classmates,
teachers and equipment.
5) Follow safety tips to keep
yourself and classmates from
getting hurt.

CONSEQUENCES:
1) Reminder of class rules.
2) Private warning.
3) First time-out return when
you are ready.

4) Second time-out stay until

end of class.
5) Teacher, student and/or

DRESS CODE:
Parents we need your help!
Please make sure your child has
sneakers for their P.E. days
especially girls! Who like to
wear all sorts of things on their
feet. But without proper ankle
and foot support (sneakers) your
child will have to sit out of all or
part of the class. And that
means a lower grade for not
participating.
Clothes need to be light with no
midriffs showing. If girls decide
to wear a dress please wear
shorts underneath. No jewelry
or other accessories.

SICKNESS:
Parents, send a note on their
P.E. class day if you want them
to be excused. Two excuses in a
row will require a doctors
excuse note. Mrs. Nelson in our
Health Office will be calling you
if needed. Students may not
come to class and say, My
mom said. No note from you,
no excuse from P.E. We get this
very often.

PURPOSE OF P.E.
CLASSES:

30

Improving my students lives

through 4 main objectives:
1) Involve each student in daily
physical activity.
2) Achieve personal fitness.
3) Understand various ways of
physical activity.
4) Acquire knowledge about
being healthy and staying
active.

CA EDUCATION
CODE/LAWS:
#51210 - Mandates (1-6 grades)
students must attend 200
minutes of P.E. each 10
schooldays, with an emphasis
on physical activities, exclusive
of recesses and the lunch
period.

YOUTH OBESITY:
According to the Center for
Disease Control (CDC),
overweight youth has doubled in
the last 30 years.
70% of girls and 40% of
boys (6-12) cannot do one
pull-up.
47% of youth (6-19) are
overweight and/or at risk
to be overweight.
Parents and teachers must work
together as a team, in order to
get youth to be physically active
for a lifetime. This includes
banning candy and soda from
school sites. Also, having
parents prepare healthy snacks,

like granola bars or fruit, at

home.

PARENT PARTICIPATION:
I want to invite all parents to
come visit my P.E. class. So that
you can see the lifetime physical
activity classes we have.

UNITS OF INSTRUCTION:
Week One - All Teachers were
instructed to view the LCPS
Recess/Play Equipment video
before allowing students to use
the equipment. P.E. class rules
were reviewed and Parent
Letters sent home.
Week Two Upper grades began
Cooperative Games and lower
grades began non-locomotor
movement skills. Grades 4-5
participated in an Orienteering
Course outside on the field,
using small groups and a
compass to find their way
(Cardinal Directions are a 3rd
grade lesson).
Other September lessons
grades 3-5 will be taking the
state fitness tests, starting their
county approved fitness training
lessons and soccer skills.
Grades K-2 will continue with
non-locomotor and locomotor
skills, and eye-foot skills.

FITNESS MINUTE
HOMEWORK:

31

All students have daily P.E.

homework. Grades K-2 do 5 situps, 5 push-ups and 30 seconds
straight leg sit and reach
