Oedipus

The student wrote a paper about Oedipus the King and received feedback. They felt they did well expanding on examples from the text. However, the paper was written in mixed tenses which needs improvement. The student likes using the "loop cycle" structure for building a thesis with on-topic details. In their self-assessment of paragraph structure, topic sentences and quote incorporation were strong, but explanations, closings, and transitions were average. The student's goal is to focus on keeping all future writing in the proper tense to maintain clarity for the reader and themselves.

WRITING REFLECTION # __________

Mrs. Cracchiolo (2014-2015)

PIECE OF WRITING: Oedipus The King
In class writing OR out of class writing

1. Looking at the feedback, what/where do you think you did particularly well?
One area I think I did particularly well in was my ability expand upon a specific example from the text.

2. Looking at the feedback, what do you think was the area you need the most improvement in and why? (Be
Specific)
In this paper, I often refered to the story in the past tense rather than the present. I need to work on
making sure my papers are written in a single present tense.

3. Did the loop cycle work for you? Why or why not?
I like the loop cycle because it allowed me to build on a thesis statement while still keeping on topic.

4. Body paragraph construction is the most important part of your paper since this is the area that uses
evidence to back up your claims. Looking at your paper and feedback, rate yourself overall on the
following elements that correspond to the loop structure.

AVERAGE

5. The big question: based on your comments, checklist where you rated yourself on body paragraph
structure, and overall score, what NEW GOAL do you have for your next writing assignment? In other
words, what skills will you try to focus on in the future and why?
GOAL:
I would like to be able to better prepare a piece so that it is written in the right tense

WHY:

Keeping the reader in the same tense will keep them on track as far as the plot of the piece goes and will allow
me to keep on track as well.

6. Any other feedback youd like to share??

Not really, the only thing I feel I need to really improve on was the tense of the piece
