    Background:
    I was born in Katmandu, Nepal and adopted
    at three months. Since then, I have lived
    exclusively in Colorado. I grew up in
    Berthoud and attended schools in the
    Thompson Valley School District. After
    graduating in 2011, I went to Front Range
    Community College and got my Associates
    Degree of Art, then transferred to CSU. I am
    an English Education Major, excited to
    teach!

    Experience:
    Since 14, I volunteered for various teachers
    throughout the Berthoud schools. I assisted
    in the health class dissections at Turner
    Middle, I was a teachers assistant for
    several teachers at Ivy Stockwell, and I
    participated in the Berthoud tutoring
    program. I also volunteered at Apple Leaf
    Assisted Living Center, and did crafts/
    activities with elderly. Most recently, I was
    hired by Young Rembrandts to teach an
    after school art class for students K-5 at
    Dunn Elementary School here in Fort
    Collins. I also am part of a Adolescent
    Literature library internship through CSU.

    Why Teaching?
    My father was a teacher for over 33
    years, and growing up I always
    witnessed his passion for his job.
    After his sudden death, I poured
    myself into school. I realized that I
    loved English, and through my
    writing I survived. I found my voice
    with the love and support of my
    amazing family and teachers. When
    I got to college, I discovered that I
    wanted to teach. I want to give my
    students an outlet to voice their
    own creativity and their passions.

    Philosophy:
    After having the opportunity of working
    with a variety of students and a variety of
    age groups, I have come to understand the
    importance of student choice. I want to
    integrate multimedia learning and literacy
    through creative, hands-on projects and
    activities. I want my students to have some
    say in what direction their learning is going,
    and have fun in the process. Despite
    contrary opinions, education and learning
    can be relevant and exciting, and I want my
    students to realize the change they can
    make even as adolescents.

    Interesting Facts:
    In my spare time, I love to read,
    write, and spend time with my
    family. I am a singer/songwriter
    and occasionally do open mics. I
    also compete in Slam Poetry
    competitions in Fort Collins. My
    first time competing I actually won,
    which was really exciting. Other
    than this, I am a huge science
    fiction nerd. I love Star Trek and
    Doctor Who!
