PIPESIM Pipeline and Facilities

Modeling
Identify and engineer the best pipelines and facilities design
for oil and gas production
THE PIPESIM APPLICATION
ALLOWS YOU TO

model multiphase flow from

the reservoir through the
production facilities to your
delivery point

perform a comprehensive
sensitivity analysis at any point
in your hydraulic system using
multiple parameters

simulate your field production

system to improve production,
make better decisions, and
maximize your asset value

simulator for an integrated
sandface to process facility
analysis.

The pipelines temperature-pressure relationship is superimposed on the phase envelope, showing that hydrates are likely
to be formed under this design.

A detailed understanding of the thermohydraulics of your production system is critical to flowline design
and flow assurance. PIPESIM* production system analysis software provides you with a comprehensive tool
for analyzing complex multiphase pipeline systems. With interlinked modules, PIPESIM software allows you
to build a fully integrated model of the entire production workflow, connecting with reservoir and process
simulators such as ECLIPSE* reservoir simulation software and AspenTechs HYSYS process simulator.

SCHLUMBERGER INFORMATION SOLUTIONS

PIPESIM software incorporates all the current industry-standard

multiphase flow correlations, both empirical and mechanistic, to
predict flow regimes, liquid holdup, and pressure loss. This enables
you to design and operate your production-gathering and distribution
systems with confidence.

Schlumberger Information Solutions (SIS) is an operating unit of

Schlumberger that provides software, information management,
IT, and related services. SIS collaborates closely with oil and gas
companies to solve todays tough reservoir challenges with an open
business approach and comprehensive solution deployment. Through
our technologies and services, oil and gas companies empower their
people to improve business performance by reducing exploration and
development risk and optimizing operational efficiencies.

PIPESIM software produces detailed flow regime maps at the existing

pipeline operating conditions, incorporating all angles of inclination.
PIPESIM software uses the in-situ superficial gas and liquid velocities
to identify the flow pattern at every node in the system, allowing you to
determine the holdup and pressure distribution in your pipeline system.
Predicting slugs and their size and frequency enables you to optimize
the design of your pipeline and processing facilities. The OLGA-S and
TUFFP models can be used to identify these critical characteristics
of hydrodynamic slug flow. PIPESIM software also predicts the
occurrence of slugging in risers.

Accurate modeling of the produced fluid is critical to understanding

the behavior of the system. PIPESIM software offers the choice
between industry-standard black-oil correlations or a range of
equation of state (EOS) compositional models.
Accurate heat transfer calculations including buried and partially
buried conditions enable insulation studies and the overall thermal
design of your system.
Wax precipitation and deposition is important in areas with high paraffin
contents. PIPESIM software has added the ability to model single-phase
wax deposition in flowlines with integration with dbrSOLIDS* fluid
analysis software.
PIPESIM software also includes calculation routines to determine
CO2 corrosion rates and erosional velocity limits for your pipeline,
allowing you to design for safe pipeline operation.
FACILITIES MODELING

PIPESIM software includes models of all common surface facilities

equipment to determine their impact on system design.
The sophisticated sensitivity options in PIPESIM software can also
be used to design systems by varying key system parameters, thus
enabling optimal pipeline and equipment sizes to be determined.
Equipment modules include
n

separators

pumps and multiphase boosters

compressors and expanders

heaters and coolers

chokes.
