The children will participate in a simple investigations and form a hypothesis
by creating a cloud in a bottle.

The children will enhance fine motor skills by manipulating an air pump to fill a
bottle with air.

II. Materials:
15 felt shaped clouds as mats (cut out prior)
5-2 liter bottles
1 bottle of rubbing alcohol
1 air pump
The Cloud Song By Sandie Muncaster.
III. Procedure:
A. Motivation
1. I will have cotton balls glued together to represent a cloud (prior to
class)
2. I will ask the children what they look like.
3. I will tell them what it is and then let them sit on it.
B. Steps
1. I will sit the children on the cloud mats.
2. I will ask the children what a cloud is.
3.
4.
5.
6.
7.
I will ask the children if they have ever mad a cloud before.
I will tell that class we will be making clouds in a bottle today.
I will ask the children what clouds are.
I will ask the children if we can touch them.
I will ask the children if we could touch them how do they think it could
feel.
8. I will put the children in groups of three where each child will have a job
9. I will give each group the bottle.
10. I will give each group a miniature tire pump.
11. I will instruct the first child to put the tip of the air pump inside of the bottle.
12. I will have the second child hold the bottle.
13. I will have the third children pump the pump 20 times and then pull the tip
of the air pump out.
14. I will give the children 5 minutes to observe what they see in the bottle and
see how we have just created a cloud.
15. I will explain to the children that the reason a cloud appeared is because
pressure and water vapor in the air compress and expand in a small scale
version of what happens in the atmosphere.
16. Once each child has had a chance to do each step I will direct the children
to circle time
IV. Conclusion: I will sing a cloud song to the children called The Cloud Song
By Sandie Muncaster.
V. Transition: I will have each child pick up their mats and float like a child to
their seats
VI. Follow-Up Activities/Learning Centers:
1. Put a book about clouds in the reading area.
2. Take the children outside to look at clouds.
3. Do a creative arts lesson plan on clouds.
VII. Evaluation/Assessment:
1. Did the children participate in a simple investigations and form a
hypothesis by creating a cloud in a bottle?
2. Did the children enhance fine motor skills by manipulating an air pump
to fill a bottle with air?
3. Did the children recognize cause and effect relationships by
observing?
4. Did the children engage and participate in a group music activity by
singing the song The Cloud Song?
A. Self-Reflection Assessment:
1. What did the children most enjoy?
2. What did the children least enjoy?
3. If I implemented this lesson again, what would I do differently?
