Q2. Verify that y = x+c
is general solution of y 00 = y 2 . Find particular solutions such that (i)
y(0) = 1, and (ii) y(0) = 1. In both cases, Find the largest interval I on which y is defined.

Q3. Let V be a linear space of all twice differentiable functions with usual operations. Show that
solutions of the differential equation y 00 + y 0 + y = 0 form a linear space.
Q4. Solve the following linear first order differential equations using the method of variation of
parameters:
(i) xy 0 2y = x4
(ii) y 0 + (cos x)y = sin x cos x
Q5. Find the curve y = y(x) passing through origin for which y 00 = y 0 and the line y = x is tangent
at the origin.
Q6. (a) Find the values of m such that y = emx is a solution of
(i) y 00 + 3y 0 + 2y = 0,
(ii) y 00 4y 0 + 4y = 0,

(iii) y 000 2y 00 y 0 + 2y = 0.

(b) Find the values of m such that y = xm (x > 0) is a solution of

(i) x2 y 00 4xy 0 + 4y = 0,

(ii) x2 y 00 3xy 0 5y = 0.

Q7. Find general solution of the following differential equations given a known solution y1 :
(i) x(1 x)y 00 + 2(1 2x)y 0 2y = 0, y1 = 1/x,
(ii) (1 x2 )y 00 2xy 0 + 2y = 0, y1 = x.
Q8. Solve the following differential equations:
(i) y 00 4y 0 + 3y = 0,
(ii) y 00 + 2y 0 + ( 2 + 1)y = 0, is real,
Q9. Solve the following Cauchy-Euler equations:
(i) x2 y 00 + 2xy 0 12y = 0,
(ii) x2 y 00 + xy 0 + y = 0,
Q10. Solve the following differential equations:
(i) y 000 8y = 0,
(ii) y (4) + y = 0,
(iii) y 000 3y 0 2y = 0,

(iii) 4y 00 12y 0 + 9y = 0.

(iii) x2 y 00 xy 0 + y = 0.

(iv) y 000 6y 00 + 11y 0 6y = 0.

Q11. Find the particular solution for following equation using method of undetermined coefficients:
(i) y 00 y 0 6y = 20e2x ,
(ii) y 00 2y 0 + 5y = 25x2 + 12,
