USING CELL RANGE REFERENCES


In order to refer to a range of cells, you need to be able to read notations for this. When
referring to a range, you will use 2 cell references, the upper left cell and the lower right cell
in the range you want to highlight with a colon separating them: A1:C5 for instance, refers to
a range that starts in A1 and goes to C5. A range will ALWAYS be a rectangle.
Use the following sets of instructions to create pictures in Excel using cell ranges:

1. Highlight the range A:K
a. Click and hold the mouse button on the A column and drag to highlight over to the K
column (A:K)

button in the Cells group
Select Column Width from the menu
Type 2
Click OK

a. Click in cell A1 and hold the mouse button
b. Drag down to F6
c. Release mouse button
3. Fill the cell with Pink using the fill color button
4. Highlight the range A3:F3
5. Fill with Yellow
6. Highlight D1:D6
7. Fill with Yellow
8. Click on cell C2, fill with yellow
9. Click on cell E4, fill with yellow
