STANDARDS/BENCHMARKS/GLCE/HSCE addressed in this lesson: The physically literate individual applies knowledge
of concepts, principles, strategies and tactics related to movement and performance.

M.MS.02.03: demonstrate selected elements of the mature form of manipulative skills of, underhand throw,
and overhand throw in isolated settings.
Movement Prep: Freeze tag use locomotor movements to raise heart rates and learn about personal space.
OBJECTIVES:
Psychomotor:

Students will demonstrate competency in locomotor skills while using different levels of force 3 out of 4 times.
Cognitive:

2 out of 3 students will correctly answer questions regarding Throwing.


Personal Social:

Students will demonstrate cooperation and respect towards their peers and teacher.
INSTRUCTIONAL ACTIVITIES:
Time:

Movement Preparation (Warm Up) Freeze tag


Centrally Located Position: Standing in front of the class so all students can hear and see me.
Dry Run: (demonstration/explanation) This game is played with 3 taggers in the middle of the gym who try to tag

people before they cross from one side of the gym too another. When your tagged by a freezer you are frozen
and cannot move until tagged by another one of the children trying to make it across.
Challenge: For a challenge if too many people make it across I will add more taggers.
Safety: Make sure students know how to move without hitting each other and make sure they know how too tag
off on each other.
Questions to Check Understanding: What happens when you are tagged? Can someone whos frozen get someone
else thats frozen un-frozen? What happens when everyone is frozen?
Transition to begin warm up: I want everyone to stand up in your lines and walk to the middle of the gym in your

lines and face me be aware of your personal space.


Students Participate:
Transition to end warm up: Freeze! When I say goo everyone walk back to their attendance spot a sit down. Go!
Anticipatory set: How do you put things in the trash? Have you ever thrown your things away? Today were going

to learn how to throw.


Instructional activities (teaching/concept):
1. Sitting/Stationary- Can everyone make the T with their arms? Can you put your arms in a throwing

motion?
2. Standing moving in personal space- Can you show me how your feet move when you throw? Do your hips
move when you throw?
3. Moving in general space- Can you show me a jump throw? Can everyone take 3 steps then make a throwing
motion?
4. If ready combine concepts and can use partners- Can everyone grab a partner? Can the tallest partner throw
an air pass to their partner?

Transition to end: When I yell Stop! Will everyone sit by the stage and wait for further directions.

Practice/Concept/Skill: Throwing (lightning)


Centrally Located Position: Standing in the middle of the gym watching to see if students are playing the game

correctly
Dry Run: (demonstration/explanation) Two student volunteers will show how to throw the balls into the holohoop

and show all the options during the game. The game rules consist of; if you miss your throw and the person
behind you makes it you are out and you have to skip a lap.
Challenge: If students are getting out too easy each student will have to step back.
Safety: Make sure students watch out for others and watch where they throw.
Questions to Check Understanding: What happens if you miss? Can you miss and not be out? How do you win the

game?
Transition to begin: When I say go everyone with a black shirt on the right side of the gym
Students Practice
Transition to end: When I yell FREEZE everyone stop sit down and wait for directions.

Culminating Activity/Practice Skill Taught: Capture the cone


Centrally Located Position: Standing in the middle of the gym making sure things are going correctly
Dry Run: To play the game you must get the opposite teams cones over to your teams side. The way you get the

cone is by knocking over the other teams cone with a ball. The only rule is that you cant move when you have
the ball so you and your team must move down the court in that fashion.
Challenge: If the game is too simple I will make the children shoot from farther away.
Safety: Be sure students are aware of personal space and they watch where they throw the ball.
Questions to Check Understanding: How long is each round? How many times can you throw? What happens if

you have the ball in your hand?


Transition to Begin Activity: When I say Go, the game will begin. Ready? GO!
Students Participate
Transition to End Activity: Freeze! When I say Go, quietly walk back over to your spots on the floor in front of the

stage and wait for the next thing.


Conclusion/closure: What did we learn today? What have we learned about throwing today?

girls club and http://www.funbrain.com/FBSearch.php?Grade=2. All equipment needed for this game is enough balls for the
entire class also 6 holohoops.
