TUTORIAL QUESTIONS on DC (6TH and 7th unit)

(1)Design an encoder for (7, 4) binary cyclic code generated by g(x) =1+x+x3 &
verify its operation using the message vectors (1001) & (1011).

(2)For a (7, 4) cyclic code, the received vector z(x) is 1110101 & the generator
polynomial is g(x) = 1+x+x3.Draw the Syndrome calculation circuit & correct
the single error in the received vector.

(3) Consider a (15,11) cyclic code generated by g(x) = 1+x+x4.Design a


feedback shift register encoder circuit .Illustrate the encoding procedure with
the message vector 10010110111 by listing the state of the registers.

(4)A (15,5) Linear cyclic code has a generator polynomial


G(x) = 1+x+x2+x4+x5+x8+x10
(i)Draw block diagram of an encoder & Syndrome calculator for this code for
the message sequence 10110.
(ii)Find the code polynomial for the message polynomial D(x)= 1+x2+x4 in
systematic form.
(iii)Is V(x) = 1+x4+x6+x8+x14 a code polynomial.

(5) Draw the state diagram, tree diagram, and trellis diagram for k=3, rate 1/3
code generated by g1 (x) = 1+x2, g2(x) = 1+x and g3 (x) = 1+x+x2
