This week in FLK-3

We Celebrated Sohees 5th Birthday!

Happy Birthday Sohee!

In Language: We continued working on letters/sounds and letter formation. We
worked on the Starting Corner Capitals: H,K,L,U,V,W,X,Y,Z. We built each letter
using straight and curved lines and then moved to individual chalkboards. The
Starting Corner capitals all begin in the top left corner of our individual
chalkboards. We used various activities to review letter names, sounds, and
matching upper case to lower case letter pairs.
We read Chicka Chicka Boom Boom and used activities to practice our letters. We
made a magnet coconut tree and another on the wall. We read SUPERHERO ABC
and then wrote our own version of it. There is a super hero for each letter of the
alphabet.
We worked on counting syllables and we read book 5 of the Bob Books, Dot and
Mit.
Dalien the Alien has had successful sleepovers. His parents report from outer
space that they are thrilled with his earth education. This week he went home with
Deborah, but Deborah became sick, so he will learn about earthling home medical
care! He will go home with Lauren next week. Miss Mason is deciding how we will

vote on the 12 Blue Spruce books and this week read a funny book about owning a
dinosaur. Some of us would like to have dinosaurs that do some interesting tasks
for us!!
Gym: We continued working on the DanceFest dance routine.
Religion: We continued to use the play Mass kit. We discussed that we are still in
the Season of Easter.
Science : we had no formal science this week
In Art: we had no formal art this week
In Music, Drama and Dance: Alice in Wonderland continued to be alive and well in
the classroom this week! Dance and Gym were one and the same this week.
In Mathematics: We continued with probability. We discussed unlikely vs likely
and possible vs impossible. We worked with spinners that had unequal parts and
discussed the likelihood of spinning certain colors. We did the same with dice, a
coin toss and BINGO chips placed in a bag.
In Personal and Social Development: As Director of Alice in Wonderland, Miss
Evans turned her herculean skills to pulling the play together this week. We had
Miss Martin helping us. The children worked well with her and vice versa. We
worked on leadership skills as we worked in small groups for Math and Language.
Our 2nd years are doing a great job!
In Inquiry/Directed Play: We became immersed in super heroes! There were
masks and capes and hilarious super powers!
We also played the SMILE game..2 players face off and try to make the other
smile. The audience is judge. This sparked a whole lot of Look, Im not smiling
moments..because the minute we forbid them to smile, weeelllll.
