Course Outline Booklet
Introduction
Welcome to NCEA music. This booklet contains an outline of your course of study for this year.
Because performance is such a large part of this course, you will need to commit to attending regular tuition in your instrument and as a result
of this take full responsibility for any tuition and/or instrument hireage fees. Please make sure that you provide me with full details of who you
are receiving tuition from. At this level of study, daily practice on your instrument is also recommended.
In the pages which follow, you will find a matrix for all the achievement standards available for music from Levels 1-3 followed by extra details
about each course. There is also a page for you to note down all the achievement standards you are doing, set some goals and track your
progress. This will be followed by a few tips on how to achieve in music and details on the school policy on late assignments and extensions,
reassessment, resubmission, authenticity of work and lodging an appeal. Please read through this information carefully and keep it safe. You
will need to refer to it throughout the year.

LEVEL 1 NCEA (YEAR 11)

This Year 11 Music course contributes up to 24 credits toward your Level 1 NCEA qualification. Your progress and learning will be assessed
against six achievement standards, shown in the table below. Standards are either assessed at school in the course of the year, (internal
standards), or are assessed by examination at the end of the year, (external standards).You will need to obtain a minimum of 14 credits to be
eligible to continue with Year 12 (Level 2) Music.
Two standards at level 1 91093 and 91094 are examined by external exam at the conclusion of the school year. They will also be assessed
during internal exams in Term 3 to monitor your progress. The remainder are internally assessed.

This year, the Year 12 Music course contributes up to 20 credits toward your Level 2 NCEA qualification. Your progress and learning will be
assessed against the standards shown in the table below. Standards are either assessed at school in the course of the year, (internal
standards), or are assessed by examination at the end of the year, (external standards).You will need to obtain a minimum of 14 credits to be
eligible to continue with Year 13 (Level 3) Music.
One standard at level 2 90268 is examined by external exam at the conclusion of the school year. It will also be assessed during internal
exams in Term 3 to monitor your progress. The remainder are internally assessed.

Accept any invitation to perform, even if its below your current ability level

Listen to lots of styles of music

If unsure what is required, clarify with your teachers.

House Keeping Matters

Late Assignments, Extensions, Reassessment, Resubmission,
Authenticity of Work and Lodging an Appeal
Work for NCEA internally assessed achievement standards not submitted on time, or not covered by an extension, will not be assessed.
Extensions to the due date may be granted in special circumstances. As is the schools policy, you must first approach your subject teacher to
discuss the matter.
Any written work you submit for assessment will need to be signed to attest that it is your own, completed without help from others. A second
signature is required to confirm you have received and accepted your mark. If you consider that your work has been unfairly assessed you may
lodge an appeal within 7 days of receiving the assessment.
If you have not gained achievement in an internally assessed achievement standard you will be given ONE resubmission or reassessment
opportunity, IF FEASIBLE. Resubmissions will only be available for written standards, not the solo or group performances. Please note that
that reassessment requires the reassessment of the WHOLE standard.

It would be sensible to make use of this facility.
