(e.g., median, mean, mode) and variability (e.g., range,
interquartile range, mean absolute deviation).

Informal Evaluation
Students decipher differences between mean, median,

Observe students calculate mean, median, mode, and range
during the post-it and card activity.

Introduction
Before Lesson:
Have learning targets written on the bulletin board and
agenda posted on smart board.
Activating Prior Knowledge
Review from yesterday by having students decipher between
mean, median, and mode by answering questions on white
boards.
Hook/Lead-In/Anticipatory Set
As each student enters the room, they were handed a set of
post it notes.
1. In periods 1&2- each table will share a set.
2. For LS- each student will receive their own set.
The students are to use the numbers as a set and calculate
the mean, median, and mode of the values.
I will quickly check their answers with the color-coded key.
State that we are missing one more important way to
describe data. Ask if anybody knows what it is.
