Tutorial 3b

This document contains 5 questions about circuit analysis: (1) Analyze a series RLC circuit, finding its resonant frequency, half-power frequencies, and current amplitudes. (2) Calculate power quantities for a load drawing power from a sinusoidal source. (3) Determine the inductance and resistance of a coil based on voltage, current, and power measurements. (4) Calculate the average power delivered to a resistor given its current over time. (5) Verify power conservation in a series RLC circuit driven by a voltage source.

A load Z draws 12 kVA at a power factor of 0.856 lagging from a 120 V rms sinusoidal
source. Calculate:

Question 3
a) A coil is represented by a model consisting of an inductance L in series with a
resistance R. A voltmeter reading rms voltage reads 26 V when a 2-A (rms)
current is supplied to the coil. A wattmeter indicates that the average power
delivered to the coil is 20 W. Determine L and R when = 377 rad/s.
b) Assume the coil in (a) is connected to a 26-V (rms) source at the frequency =
377 rad/s. Find the complex power delivered to each element of this circuit.
