Orientation 102 Statement of Purpose

The document is a statement of purpose from a freshman studying electrical engineering with a concentration in computer science at Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University. They plan to graduate in 2018 with a bachelor's degree and above a 3.8 GPA. They completed an engineering internship at Boeing the summer before starting college where they learned professional skills and built electrical circuits. Their goal is to attend Auburn University for graduate studies in electrical engineering, focusing on microelectronics and analog circuits, and ultimately become a certified electrical engineer working for the government, preferably in electronics.

Statement of Purpose

I am a freshman at Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University. I am studying

Electrical Engineering with a concentration of Computer Science. I plan to graduate in May 2018
with a Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering. I also expect to graduate with at least a 3.8
GPA and with honors. I am very proud to say that I will be one of the best that comes out of my
class. While I am currently in my undergraduate career, I have already started to build my
resume and I am expanding my knowledge every day that I am in and out of the classroom. I
wish next to enter Auburn Universitys Graduate program in Electrical Engineering.
Electrical Engineering and Computer Science are the colliding fields that I find the most
interesting. I experience the most pleasure in pursuing these fields of Engineering. Although I
have only been in college for barley a year, I have and plan to work hard for the next 3 years to
increase my understanding of these fields. I have enjoyed the process so far. I wish to study
Electrical Engineering at Auburn University so I can further study the subjects that I am
interested in. I am specifically interested in Microelectronics and Analog Circuits in Electrical
Engineering.
The summer before started my college career, I participated in an internship at The
Boeing Company. I worked with them as an unpaid engineering summer intern. The Boeing
Company is an Engineering firm that is mostly famous for making airplanes, but also provides
other things to its contractors. One of my main tasks was to gain professional experience from
other professionals that worked there. I shadowed other engineers and learned how to conduct
myself every day in a professional environment. Another task I had was to build electrical

circuits. In teaching myself how to wire these circuits, I gained valuable experience before I
stared my college career.
I greatly enjoyed myself from that whole experience. I felt like I was contributing
positively to the field of Engineering. I even had a badge and a desk with a computer. I was
extremely satisfied when I was able to get those circuits working properly. Overall, I am pleased
that I participated in that internship even though I was not paid.
I currently participate in a Special Project Group that combines all areas of engineering
together. The group performs special projects such as building rockets and creating fly fish. This
is just undergraduate projects, but I would like to participate in graduate study projects as well. I
am also involved in a program sponsored by Northrop Grumman. This program was created to
teach young engineers how to be positive and efficient professionals. Northrop Grumman holds
workshops for a chosen group and gives that group internship and job opportunities as well as
information for different types of engineering jobs. This program will help give me professional
experience to help prepare me for graduate school.
My ultimate goal is to become a certified Electrical Engineer and work for the
government. I preferably want to work in electronics.
