Pre-Assessment
Administer pre-assessment before the activity. It is recommended that this preassessment be given the previous class period to allow for the time necessary to complete
the activity. Use the results of the pre-assessment to prepare good questions to ask during
the activity.
Explain the activity to students.
You will be given three sets of cards to complete this activity. The first set of cards are a
series of graphs that show various transformations. You will be expected to review these
cards with your partner(s) and to discuss what type or types of transformations are being
shown on each graph. After _________ minutes you will get the second set of cards.
The second set of cards will have the names of each of the transformations we have
studied in class. It will be the job of you and your partner(s) to match these names to the
graphs. Each name belongs to a graph. Each graph may match up with more than one
type of transformation. After ________________ minutes, you will get the third set of
cards. The third set of cards have the transformation in function terms. You will then
have ______________________ minutes to match this third set to the graphs and to
organize them on your poster. When you are done you should tape your poster to the
wall.
Gallery Walk
When the posters have all been posted assign each group to a poster to review. Each
group should be given an allotted amount of time to review each poster. It is helpful to
have students use pencils to correct any mistakes that they find. Teacher should monitor
student discussions during this time period. This is a great opportunity to correct any
misconceptions that you didnt catch during the main part of the activity. Encourage
discussion amongst students.
Post-assessment
Evaluate your post-assessment for growth. Revisit any topic that has not made sufficient
progress.
