Non Linear Materials Shown in The Following Figures (A) and GG (B) Violate Drucker's Stability Postulate

The figures (a) and (b) show non-linear materials that violate Drucker's stability postulate as they allow for multiple strain values at a given stress or multiple stress values at a given strain. Figures (c) and (d) satisfy the postulate as they have a single stress/strain relationship at each value. While materials in figure (c) have a non-linear constitutive relation between stress and strain, the expression given could provide multiple strain values for a given stress, violating uniqueness. Deriving stress from a potential function establishes relations between coefficients, makes work path independent, and ensures the strain tensor is normal to the potential function.
