    1. FFT ANALYZER
    Generally application of fft analyzer
    in the field of automobile is to know
    the amount of knocking and vibration
    of exhaust system.
    Output of transducer for measuring
    the vibration and knocking is
    generally analog type and based on
    time domain.

    But one cannot find the frequency of


    specific amplitude on time domain.
    Suppose we want to know the
    frequency of amplitude of 2 db, then
    from above time domain analysis it is
    not possible.

    So,for converting time domain signal


    to frequency domain signal fast
    fourior tranform is used.
    Output of above signal after fft is as
    below.

    Components of FFT Analyzer

    2. CATHODE RAY
    OSCILLOSCOPE
    The CRO allows the amplitude of
    electrical signals, whether they are
    voltage,current or power to be
    displayed as afunction of time.
    The main component of CRO are
    electron gun and phosphor screen.
    The electron gun generates the
    beam which strikes the screen. The
    screen glows at the point of collision,
    producing a bright spot.

    When the beam is deflected by


    means of an electric or magnetic
    field the spot moves accordingly and
    trace out a pattern.
    Since we can assume that practically
    electron has negligible weight, it has
    no inertia and hence it can give
    response upto GHz frequency.

    oscilloscopes
    are
    becoming an important workshop
    tool for testing sensors and output
    signals
    on
    electronic
    engine
    managementsystems,brakingands
    tability
    systems.

    3. STROBOSCOPE

    The stroboscopic principle uses a


    high intensity light which flashes at
    precise intervals. This light may be
    directed upon a rotating or vibrating
    object.

    When the frequency of movement


    exactly
    matches
    stroboscope
    frequency, the moving object is
    viewd clearly only once dyring each
    revolution. This causes the moving
    object to appear as asingal statinary
    image.
    A stationary image also appears
    when the speed of rotation is some
    exact multiple of the stroboscope
    frequency.

    The main advantage of stroboscope


    is that one can measure rpm without
    touching to the engine shaft. So
    measurement of speed in confined
    space is also possible.
    Stroboscope used external power
    source, so accuracy is very high upto
    0.1%.
