What is Reiki
/Rk/
A healing technique based on the
principle that the therapist can
channel energy into the patient by
means of touch, to activate the
natural healing processes of the
patient's body and restore
physical and emotional well-being.
Reiki is a Japanese technique for
stress reduction and relaxation that
also promotes healing. It is
administered by "laying on hands"
and is based on the idea that an
unseen "life force energy" flows
through us and is what causes us to
be alive.
Rei can be defined as the
Higher Intelligence that guides
the creation and functioning of
the universe.
Ki is the non-physical energy
that animates all living things.
Ki is flowing in everything that
is alive including plants,
animals and humans.
History of
Reiki
Reiki is believed to have begun
in Tibet several thousand years
ago
Various healing systems, which
crossed many different cultures,
emerged from this single root
system
Dr. Mikao Usui
A Japanese Christian educator in Kyoto, Japan,
rediscovered the root system in the mid- to late
1800s
Usui underwent a metaphysical experience and
became empowered to use these sounds and
symbols to heal
The tradition was passed through several
grandmasters of reiki such as Dr. Chujiro Hyashi,
Hawayo Takata, and Phyllis Lei Furumoto.
