Background Information
Teacher:
Xiomara Fonseca

Date:
February 19, 2015

School:
Cleveland Elementary School

Grade Level:
3rd grade

Lesson Focus:
Movement Concepts

# of students:
22

Equipment and Facilities:

23 Polyspots
8 Scarves
10 Beanbags
6 Starred Polyspots
6 Arrowed Polyspots
8 Cones

Safety Considerations:
Students will need to be aware of their surroundings
such as: other students, teachers, playground
equipment, and objects on the floor. Their heads will
need to be up so they do not accidentally bump into
another student(s).

Lesson Specifics
Behavioral Contingencies: If student(s) is behaving Previously Learned Skills:
inappropriately or is disruptive during activity or
Basic knowledge of movement concepts: Running,
instruction they will be given one verbal warning. If
Walking
this behavior continues the student(s) will be asked to
sit out from the activity until the teacher feels it is
appropriate for the student(s) to return to the activity.
If the student(s) continues this undesirable behavior
or behavior in an extreme manner: bullying, fighting,
etc. they will be removed from the activity for the rest
of the time period of Tiger Pride and sent inside with
the After School Program.

Student
Objectives:

Psychomotor (P):
SWBAT perform movement concepts: skipping, galloping, leaping, jumping, hopping, balance,
stretching with 95% accuracy.
Cognitive (C):
SWAT solve mathematical equations, to determine how many times they need to do the activity
on the card they are stationed at, 8 out of 10 times with accuracy.
Affective (A):
SWBAT demonstrate teamwork and positive attitudes by displaying either: high fives, encouragement,
positive communication, and encouraging a safe learning environment.

H-R Fitness (H):

SWBAT recognize the physiological responses to exercise and will be engaged in MVPA for at
least 50% of the lesson.
CALIFORNIA PHYSICAL EDUCATION MODEL CONTENT STANDARDS:
I. Demonstrate the motor skills and movement patterns needed to perform a variety of physical activities.
II. Demonstrate knowledge of movement concepts, principles and strategies that apply to the learning and performance of
physical activities.
III. Assess and maintain a level of physical fitness to improve health and performance.
IV. Demonstrate knowledge of physical fitness concepts, principles and strategies to improve health and performance.
V. Demonstrate and utilize knowledge of psychological and sociological concepts, principles and strategies that apply
to the learning and performance of physical activity.
NASPE PHYSICAL EDUCATION CONTENT STANDARDS a physically literate person:
1. Demonstrates competency in motor skills and movement patterns needed to perform a variety of motor skills and
movement patterns.
2. Applies knowledge of concepts, principles, strategies and tactics related to movement and performance.
3. Demonstrates the knowledge skills to achieve and maintain a health-enhancing level of physical activity and fitness.
4. Exhibits responsible personal and social behavior that respects self and others.
5. Values physical activity for health, enjoyment, challenge, self- expression, and/or social interaction.

Instant Activity:
Find It!
- Students stand on poly-spots and wait for the
teacher to call out the object they will run
towards and touch. After the students touch
the object called out they will run back to
their poly-spot and wait for the next object to
be called out.

Diagram Instant
Activity

Goal of this task is for students to

incorporate walking/ running
movements while being able to
identity specific objects and colors
that are announced.
NASPE: IV, V
CalPE: None

Time

5
minutes

Set Induction:
Today we will continue learning about body
movements or movement concepts but also
working on some math.
1 minute Purpose:
We are continuing to learn about body
movement so we can better understand our
bodies and what they can do.

Transition:
Students will walk to the circle next to Home
30
seconds Base with their partner(s) and stand on a
polyspot with a card underneath.

!
Start/Stop Signals
Start 1 Whistle
Stop 2 Whistle
Grouping Strategies:
Students will be paired
with one other student
of their choice. If there
is an odd number of
students, students will
be grouped with other
students.

a) Goal Orientation for each task

Lesson Core - Task 1:

Mathematical Stations
- Students will perform the movement listed
on the front of the flashcard then turn the
flashcard to the back to solve the
mathematical equation and see how many
reps they will need to perform the
movement.

Diagram Task 1

Goal of this task was for students

to understand the concepts of body
movements: locomotor and nonlocomotor while incorporating
addition equations. This is to
assess the students mathematic
skills and concepts of repetitions.
NASPE: I, II, V
CalPE: 1, 2, 4

minutes

Demonstration Plan:
Teacher Demonstration

Teaching Cues for Task 1:

Leaping- jump
Jumping- with both feet pushing
off to land on both feet.
Hopping- only 1 foot

Questions to Check Understanding

1. What would 7 + 4 equal? So then how
many times will I perform this
movement?
2. After I am done performing this
movement which directions will my
group go? (To the right)

Common Errors Task 1:

1. Incorrectly solving
mathematical equations.
2. Mixing specific locomotor
movements with others.

Transition:

Students will collect all of the equipment and
30
bring it to the teacher. Afterwards the
seconds
students will sit quietly back at Home Base, in
the yellow circle, to wait for Closure to begin.
5
minutes

CLOSURE:
Review:
1. What did we do today?
2. Were most of you able to solve the
mathematical equations on the flashcards?
3. Can some of you demonstrate some of the
movements that were on the front of the
flashcards?
4. For next week, we will be learning more
about movement concepts.
