OCCT 650 Personal Leadership Development Plan
Personal Statement
I have a passion to help others and a desire to make a difference in peoples lives
in a positive way. I am from the Midwest and have hard work, perseverance, and faith that have
been instilled in me. The passion that I have to help people along with the values that I have has
led me to the career of occupational therapy. With occupational therapy, I will truly have the
opportunity to make a difference and provide care that will improve the quality of life in the
people I work with.
Mission Statement
My mission is to be the best occupational therapist that I can possibly be and to make a
difference in the life of every person that I meet. I believe that by advocating for my future
clients and providing client-centered treatments that I can achieve my mission. I will grow and
learn everyday and push myself to be a competent, trustworthy, and reliable therapist. My
mission is to also earn the respect of colleagues as well as clients and to be able to work my way
up as a leader among the rehab team. My goal is to become a rehab director and then ultimately
become a regional director of rehab. Through hard work and determination I can achieve my
mission to be a great occupational therapist and to make a difference in peoples lives everyday.
Strengths
In taking the strength finders assessment my top five strengths that emerged were
Includer, Empathy, Relator, Competition and Command. I believe this test was an accurate
assessment of my strengths and believe all five of these strengths will help to be a good
occupational therapist. I am an empathetic person as well as an includer which is good because it
will allow me to have empathy for my future clients and to include everyone and give them all

the highest level of care that I possibly can. I am also a relator which means that in performing
my occupational profile on patients I will listen and determine what is best for them and listen
and understand what they want as a patient out of my treatment plan. The other two traits will go
along with my mission statement and help me in future leadership roles.
Growth Needs
I believe my greatest area of growth is overall self confidence. I feel that I am timid and
quiet and to be able to advocate for my future clients I will have to improve in this area. Being a
soft spoken person makes it more difficult to network and show what knowledge I possess. I
have a mission to move up within the rehab team and become a director so I will have to
improve in this area because in order to lead a team I must be confident and not afraid to speak.
By improving in this area it will help to not limit me in my career and also help me to provide
the best possible services to my future clients.
Leadership Model: Authentic Leadership
I believe that my leadership model is authentic leadership. This is my style of leadership
because it is an approach in which the leaders legitimacy is built through honest relationships
with followers. Authentic leaders promote openness and are positive people in nature. I believe I
would be an authentic leader because I would constantly be asking for feedback from the team
and I also think that to be a great leader it cannot be handed to you and that you earn your
leadership by developing the trust and building relationships among your followers. In my
professional career when leadership opportunities arise I hope to be a good authentic leader and
apply this leadership model in whatever leadership role I may assume.
