Lab No. 1: To Study The Transient Response of RL Series Circuit

The document describes a lab experiment to study the transient response of an RL series circuit. The circuit contains an inductor and resistor in series. During transient response, the inductor and capacitor store energy as they transition between states. When power is applied, the inductor acts as a short circuit but acts as an open circuit when power is removed. The voltage across the inductor decays exponentially over time according to the given equation. The procedure involves setting up the schematic, performing a transient analysis in the software, and simulating the voltage response across the inductor.

To Study The Transient Response Of RL Series Circuit .

CIRCUIT DIAGRAM:-

THEORY:Circuits that are in transition from one state to another are called transient circuits, that is a
circuit has no forcing function and we apply one or we instantly remove from a circuit a source of
energy. The capacitor and inductor show transient response because these two elements are
energy storing elements. The inductor act as a short circuit at steady state condition and act as
an open circuit when there is no source.
The relation for the inductor voltage is:

VL=Ve^(-R/L)t
PROCEDURE: Go to Circuit menu Schematic options Show Nodes
Go to Analysis menu Transient Analysis
Set the appropriate attributes like initial energy to zero
Select Nodes for analysis
Select the end time Accept Simulate
