Formation of Neptune:: Interesting Facts About Neptune

When the sun was first forming, the gases that now make up Neptune were too light to be pulled in by the sun's gravity. Once the sun cooled, these gases became dense enough to stick together under the sun's gravitational pull. As the gases accumulated, Neptune formed and was born as the eighth planet from the sun. Neptune has a blue hue due to the presence of methane in its atmosphere.

Formation of Neptune:

There are many theories of how the gas giant came be. When the sun was first formed there was a bunch
of debris and dust and rocks in space. As the sun got bigger and had more of a gravitational pull it pulled in all of
the debris. All of the rocks and hard materials came together and stuck together and because of the spinning it all
eventually became a sphere and thats how we got our inner planets. But when the sun was first forming it was
hotter than it was now and the gases that now make up the outer planets weren't dense enough to come together,
almost like they were too light. But once the sun cooled off a little those gases were able to become more dense,
or thicker and heavier and were able to stick together. But its different because it's core has more rock and metal
than other gas giant cores. And thus a planet was born.
Background Info:
The highest altitudes are on Neptune and the atmosphere is 80 degrees.. Neptune is divided into two main regions.
Neptune is the 8th and farthest planet from the sun. Its the 4th largest planet by diameter and 3rd in mass. One day lasts 17
hours. Also, its really cold. The average temperature is -220/-364. It take 165 years to orbit the sun. Its too far to see it with
a naked eye; you need telescope. In 1846, Johann Gottfried Galle saw Neptune for the first time. It is made of gas. It might
have some rocky pieces and ice. Methane makes Neptune blue. There are some faint rings around it but you can't see them
because they think a moon crashed into it. There are at least 13-14 moons around it. Tritan is the real moon. The rest are
pieces of rock. Neptune is about 29.8 AUs away from the sun.
Interesting Facts about Neptune:
Neptune is the stormiest planet.
The winds can blow up yo 1,200 miles per hour, that is three times as fast as earths hurricanes.
Neptune is a sea blue color due to the methane gas in its atmosphere.
Neptune once had a great dark spot similar the jupiter.
Neptune only receives 1/900 of the solar energy that reaches earth.
Neptune has 14 known moons.
Neptune is 30 times farther from the sun as is the earth.
Neptune goes around the sun every 165 earth years.
Neptune atmosphere is made up of hydrogen, helium and methane.
How Neptune got its name: In roman mythology, Neptune was the god of the sea.

Project Blueprint:
1. We got newspaper and started to make it into a big ball and painted it blue for neptune.
2. Then we let it dry.
3. Then we painted it again and added a little white to it for the middle.
4. We researched our planet online.
