Armenian-Persian Treaty of 484

The Nvarsak Treaty was signed in 484 between Armenian general Vahan Mamikonian and representatives of the Persian Great King Balash. The treaty ensured religious freedom and autonomy for Armenians. Specifically, it established that Christians in Armenia would have freedom of worship, Zoroastrian conversions would be stopped, and land would not be given to converts to Zoroastrianism. The Persian King would personally administer Armenia through governors. Following the treaty, Vahan Mamikonian was appointed governor of the Persian province of Armenia.
