Assignment 4

The document describes two optimization problems involving minimizing transportation costs between factories and stores or agencies. In the first problem, four factories with different unit production costs and capacities must supply four stores with different demands at minimum total transportation cost. The second problem involves three factories with different unit production costs and maximum capacities supplying five agencies with different demands and sales prices at maximum total profit.

1. A product is produced by four factories A B ,C & D.

The unit production costs

in them are Rs 2,3, 1 & 5 respectively. Their production capacities are:
Factory A 50 units, B 70 units, C 30 units and D 50 units. These factories
supply the product to four stores, demands of which are 25,35,105 & 20 units
respectively. Unit transport cost in Rs from each factory to each store is given
in the table below. Minimize the transportation cost.

2. A company has three factories manufacturing the same product and five
sales agencies in different parts of the country. Production costs differ from
factory to factory and the sales prices from agency to agency. The shipping
cost per unit product from each factory to each agency is known. Given the
following data, find the production and distribution schedules most profitable
to the company.
