Task:

The graph shows the percentages of boys and girls which they achieved at the school leaving
exam in 1993-94, by subjects. Students of both sexes had best results in English and
Mathematics and had worst results in Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Results for
Mathematics, Biology and Geography were roughly equal for both girls and boys. In other
subjects, there were comparative changes in results. Girls achieved 61.5% for English which
had a lead of 17.1% with boys achievement. For French also girls had a lead of 12.5%. On
the other hand Boys achieved higher percentages in Chemistry, Physics, Geography and
Craft, Design & Technology. For Physics it was approximately twice than girls achievement
and the achievement for Craft, Design & Technology (18.9%) was also significantly higher.
According to this in general, boys have higher ability on subjects which are based on science
and technology and girls have more on Art subjects.
