ITC4992 Quality Management in Fashion & Textiles (Tutorial) 2014/15

Tutorial Project
The purpose of this assignment is to find out the root causes of poor operating margins
of Precision Delivery Inc. (PDI) and develop a process improvement plan. Read the PDI
case (Tutorial 2 Case Study) and PDI sampling data and work through below steps.
1. Review and analysis the following factors:

Facility (downtown or suburbia)


Package weight (lbs.)
Distance to customer (015 miles, 1-way)
Trip time slot (morning or afternoon)
Vehicle (bike or truck)
Dispatch time

2. Identify additional useful data/information that can be calculated for each sample
from the data provided (e.g., MPH, Revenue$, Rebate$, Margin$).
3. Use more than one 7QC tools or QM tools to analysis the data and use data
analysis to identify, verify and quantify possible causes and identify root causes.
4. Develop a procedure for your process improvement plan.
5. Estimate the correct result would be.

Guidelines

Form a group of 6-7


Prepare a group presentation of 25 minutes and a written report (2-pages) to explain
your process improvement plan.
Hand-in
For paper version (both ppts and written report), you should submit at the
beginning of the presentation tutorial.

For electronic version, you should submit to Blackboard before the tutorial.
(Blackboard > content > Tutorial presentation > attach file)
Marks will be continuous deducted 10% for every days late submission.
Marks will be deducted 10% from your grade if you are absent from the presentation. If
you are absent due to illness, you must notify the subject tutor before the presentation
tutorial and email me the medical certification within 3 working days
