Description

This Course is designed for all Deck Officers , Engineer Officers and Ratings

Scope
This model course aims to provide the training for candidates to launch and take ge of a fast
rescue boat, in accordance with Section A-VI/2 of the STCW Code.
Subject Area and Topics:
1. Construction and outfit of fast rescue boats and individual items of their equipment
2. Particular acteristics and facilities of fast rescue boats
3. Navigational and Safety equipment available in a fast rescue boat
4. Safety precautions during launch and recovery of a fast
5. How to handle a fast rescue boat in prevailing and adverse weather and sea conditions
6. Procedures for righting a capsized fast rescue boat
7. Search patterns and environment factors affecting their execution
8. Assessment of readiness of fast rescue boats and related equipment for immediate use
9. Knowledge of the maintenance, emergency repairs, normal inflation and deflation of
buoyancy compartments of inflated fast rescue boat
10. Methods of starting and operating a fast rescue boat engine
Objectives
This syllabus covers the requirements of the STCW 1995 Convention Chapter VI, Section A VI/2,
Table A-VI/2-2. On meeting the minimum standard of competence in Fast rescue Boats. A
trainee will be competent to handle and take ge such boats during or after launch in adverse
weather and sea condition. They will also be able to operate a fast rescue boat engine.
Trainee will know the correct use of all locating devices, including communication and
signaling equipment between the rescue boat and a helicopter and the ship: and how to carry
out search patterns.

Lectures, Demonstrations, Practical Work and Evaluation 23.5 Hrs. or 3 days
