EC Manual

This document describes procedures for characterizing the input and output characteristics of a bipolar junction transistor (BJT) in a common emitter (CE) configuration and measuring the frequency response of a CE amplifier circuit. Key steps include: 1. Varying input voltages and measuring collector and emitter currents to plot input characteristics curves for the BJT. 2. Varying collector voltages and measuring collector and base currents to plot output characteristics curves. 3. Applying an audio frequency signal to the CE amplifier input and measuring the output amplitude at frequencies from 20Hz to 20kHz to determine gain values, which are then plotted versus frequency on semi-log graph paper.

Input and Output (V-I) Characteristics of Bipolar Junction Transister

(BJT).

Apparatus: 1. Adtron Tariner Kit

2. 0-100 mA, 0-500 A DC Current Meter.
3. 0-10 V DC Voltmeter
4. 0-5 V DC Voltmeter
5. 0-12 V DC Fixed Supply
6. 0-12 V DC Fixed Supply
Circuit Diagram:
Procedure:
To plot Input Characteristics:
1. Connect 0-12 V DC Variable supplies to the terminals provided for the same
at the lower left hand corner above the mains ON/OFF switch.
2. Connect the current meters and voltmeters in the circuit as shown in with the
help of patch cords.
3. Let the collector base voltage VCB=Open Circuit and vary VBB in steps of 0.2 V
and note the emitter current IE and VBE in the observation table.
4. Plot a graph of VBE v/s IE with VCB open circuit.
5. Repeat the above procedure with different V CB voltages and plot graph for
each case on the same graph paper.
To plot Output Characteristics:
6. Connect 0-12 V DC variable supplies to the terminals provided for the same
at the lower left hand corner above the mains ON/OFF switch.
7. Connect the current meters and voltmeters in the circuit as shown in with the
help of patch cords.
8. Let IE=0 mA and vary VCC in steps of 0.5 V and note the collector current I C
and VCB in the observation table.
9. Plot the graph of IC v/s VCB with IE = 0.
10.Repeat the above procedure with different I E currents and plot the graph for

Aim: To study and plot the frequency response characteristics of CE Amplifier.
Apparatus: Power Supply, CE Amplifierkit, Multimeter, Connecting wires.
Circuit Diagram:
Procedure:
1. Connect the circuit as per given on kit.
2. Apply properly the DC supply.
3. Connect audio signals at the input terminals from an audio frequency
generator.
4. Keep the amplitude of input signal to 20 mV.
5. Now vary the frequency of audio frequency generator from 20 Hz to 20 kHz
and simultaneously note down the amplitude of output signal with the help of
CRO.
6. Calculate the gain of amplifier and write all reading in given table.
7. Plot the graph between frequency and gain at the frequency using the semi
