Types of Flexfields
Key Flexfields

Descriptive Flexfields

Key Flexfields
Store specific business information
Made up of segments which has both value and a

meaning
Each segment of the code can be represented as the
characteristic of the entity
Example: Bank Account Number

Descriptive Flexfields
Provide customizable space on some forms
Customize the field to collect information not generally tracked

by Oracle Application
Descriptive flexfields can be global or context sensitive
Global flexfields appear the same every time they are used.
Context sensitive flexfields may change depending on the
information that is entered.

Identifying the key flexfields that are required for Oracle Apps
Designing a key flexfield structure
Selecting appropriate flexfield to define
Defining structure information for key flexfield
Defining segment attributes
Defining flexfield qualifiers
Defining segment qualifiers
Implementing optional features as needed

Defining a Flexfield

Define the Value Sets

Define 4 value sets: Company (CO), Cost (CC), Account


(ACCT), and Future (RFU)
Define Structure: Assign Segment 1 for CO, Segment 2
for CC, Segment 3 for ACCT, Segment 4 for RFU
Define and Enable values based on the size of the Value
Set: example 00,01,02,..for CO, 000, 100, 200, 300,
400,.. for COST, 1100, 1120, 1130, 1140,.. for ACCT, and
0000 for RFU
Enter values in the accounting flexfield and testing your
work.

Provide a flexible way for the Oracle Apps to represents objects
Lets you to customize Oracle Applications features without
programming
The flexfield approach has a significant advantage over the
automatic generation of DDL statements in that it does not alter
the database scheme
