Level Control Valve - LCV

The document discusses a level control valve (LCV) system. When the level controller detects changes in the liquid level in a vessel, it sends a signal to the valve actuator. If the level drops too low, the valve closes to raise it. If the level rises too high, the valve opens to lower it. This automatic system continuously maintains the correct liquid volume and level in the vessel.

VALVE ACTUATOR CONTROLLERS

Generally all Control Valves work in the same way. Instruments continually monitor
the individual process condition.
When the instruments detect changes in that particular process condition such as
Flow, Pressure, Temperature and Level, a signal is sent to the actuator.
This signal automatically activates the actuator to open or close the valve until the
correct Flow, Temperature , Level and Pressure is obtained.
This controlling method is continuous. As the process conditions change, the valve
actuator is activated continuously to maintain the correct process conditions.
Automatic control is better and more efficient than manually operated method of
operation.

Illustrated below in Figure 33 is a typical automatic valve control system. In this case the
valve is a Level Control Valve LCV.

Figure 33
When the level controller senses a change in level, a signal is sent to the Valve
Actuator on the outlet of the vessel.
If the level drops too much, the valve will close. If the level in the vessel increases too
much, the valve will automatically open. In this way the volume of liquid in the Vessel
is automatically maintained at the correct level.
