call it, y'see.
NEVILLE
I'm not a drug addict.
oz
Look, we're doing this because we
care about you. So shut up and
park your bum.
Neville reluctantly sits. ‘The others circle him.
BARRY
This is called ‘tough love’, Nev.
NEVILLE
It's what?
BOMBER
Sometimes being gentle with someone
ain't enough. Needs stronger
measures.
OZ
It means you sit there and we tell
you what an arsehole you've been.
NEVILLE
D don’t have to listen to this -
DENNIS
Yes you do. You've been acting
very peculiar, Nev. Ever since we
got here. It's a well known fact
you're bonking Pru -
NEVILLE
That's my concern ~
DENNIS.
It isn’t. Look, we all know
Brenda. She’s the only ‘pet’ left.
They wait for a response. Neville hasn’t got one.
WYMAN
‘Then there’s the other stuff.

WYMAN
And Tina says you've been seeing a
lot of that Tarquin bloke. That
doesn't add up, what have you and
him got in common?
DENNIS
And what about this mystery phone
call te Brenda? She thought you'd
been kidnapped or something.
NEVILLE
Look, I have reasons for all) of
this. But they're personal and
private.

Maybe .you have.) But how do you
explain this!
He producés the Barcelona shirt from under his denim jacket

Why would you do that, Nev? What
would drive you to that sort of

oz
All this time, Dennis, we've been
living with a closet Man U fan!
Neville cups his head in his hands. The others wait
patiently for his response. When it, comes his voice is low.
NEVILLE
If you remember, Z never wanted to

approached by British Intelligence.
The others exchange disbelieving looks.
oz
Nice try, Nev, but you'll have to
do better than that.
NEVILLE
It’s true! why d’you think I’m

they said if I played ball we'd get

you any of this. TI signed the

AY 3 53
One side of the) square is dominated by the twin towers and
ornate baroque facade of the Catedral de San Crietobal de la
Habana. Tt's crowded with people celebrating the fiesta.
Bands play different styles of music - creola, rumba, tango
and salsa. Dancers in vibrantly coloured spanish/african
costumes. Everything is pulsing and moving with noise and
celebration.
Neville moves through the crowd, past the drummers and guitar
players. ‘wo girls ask him to dance but he shrugs them off.
He reaches an open terraced cafe at the edge of the square.
It's crowded with couples and families, but one table is
occupied by Tarquin and another man. He's fair-ekinned and
weare a panama hat against the sun.
Neville joins them and takes the spare chair. As scon as he
sits we HEAR the CLICK and WHIR of a camera.
ANOTHER ANGLE - a second story window in the building
diagonally across from the café. The glint of a lens between
the half-closed shutters.
ANOTHER ANGLE - in the crowded square a ‘Tourist’ is shooting
film. We've seen him before - he’s the Minder who picked up
Neville. He swivels his camera across the three men.60

EXT CATHEDRAL SQUARE_DAY 36 61
‘The Minder pockets his camera and moves through the crowd,
keeping Neville in view - until he’s ewallowed up by the
African drums and Spanish guitars of a guajira band.
CLOSER on Neville, jostled and pummeled by the laughing,
dancing crowd. He's swept into the arms of an exotic,
costumed dancer in billowing crimson skirts and a turban.
The crowd laugh as she whirls him around and around - and
into the arms of two male dancers wearing carnival masks..
Except there/s nothing festive or friendly about their
intentions. Neville reacts in alarm as they grip his arme
and steer him forcibly through the crowd.
The/Minder reacts in alerm - he can’t see Neville anywhere.
Three other figures are revealed, scanning the square with
anxious eyes - Oz, Dennis and Somber.
oz
We've lost him - shite!
But Bomber is taller than most of the crowd.

The street is deserted. Parked cars and sleeping dogs.
Music echoes from the festivities in the square.
Neville is hustled past a columned walkway of faded
buildings.
The guys appear - just in time to get a glimpse of the
figures ahead as they enter one of the buildings. They
sprint down the street and reach a maseive door in an empty
mansion, No way though there.
Above them, broken windows, but out of reach. The building
next door, like many in Havana, is covered in rickety wooden
scaffolding.
BOMBER
We could climb up that.
DENNIS
Hang about. That scaffolding’s
there to stop the building falling
down. Might collapse itself if we
set foot on it,
02
Only one.way to’ find out, Den.
Bomb, give us a bunk up.
The bottom dayer of scaffolding is about ten feet above them.
Oz steps into Borber’s cupped hands and hauls himself on’
the rickety framework of criss-crossing poles.

It's held so far.
Dennis is the next to get a bunk up. The scaffolding creaks,
rattles and bends beneath their combined weight. Startled
pigeons take off from their nesting places.
Bomber watches anxiously as they crab upwards towards broken,
shuttered windows. An old ehawled Woman shuffles into view
and watches indifferently as she chews tobacco.
