Data - meaningless string of; numbers letters and symbols


Logical & Boolean
Data in a Boolean can form one of two answers for example, yes or no.
Alphanumeric
Is a combination of letters numbers and symbols. Also known as string or text.
This format is used to store phone numbers but in a computer it is stored as
text because the numbers can start with a space or a zero.
Real
A real number is one which has a decimal place. For example; 1.43 or 75.687259
Integer
Integer numbers are whole numbers which have no decimal place.
Date
Dates can be stored in many different forms. For example in the uk we write it
like DD/MM/YY but in the US the write it MM/DD/YY
Currency
When the software automatically adds on a or a $ eg; 22.50
Images/ sound bites/ video clips
Some data bases will allow these to be stored. For example a criminals mug shot
and his finger print.
